As any significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the passions of followers with niche passions.
My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
- Another creative title missed out that year
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
- Only a few brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games globally and have been for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
