'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the dramatic dying seconds of his team's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match ended with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear amid the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative strike from 25 yards, and the defender immediately slammed home the rebound before charging toward the crowd to mark the goal, with supporters congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This sealed an extraordinary recovery given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. Amid the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a spectator shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a fourth-round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's first-time shot from about way out going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right wing-back after Orient changed shape. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way his former team approached the match.

City's Quality

"Physically they are outstanding but even the basics and simple things, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they complete every delivery and they understand how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're all right and then abruptly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He became a favorite as a popular figure across two seasons at Orient and has quickly replicated that in south Wales. At Orient he linked up again with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford, before he departed his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including home and away encounters against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This marks a remarkable path for the youngster from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

His sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they played on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was closed owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he comments, smiling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "It was quite easy, because I reached the point where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I felt I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

New Environment

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a small coach driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to socialize with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the next one to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would blend in with followers on London's Central line after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
